Velancia PDO Threads
For over seventy years Polydioxanone (PDO) has been used throughout the world in orthopedic and pediatric surgeries and more recently in cosmetics for skin rejuvenation, skin tightening and face 'lifting' indications. PDO is a biodegradable, synthetic, polymer.
The popularity of PDO threads can be attributed to the long safety record of Polydioxanone, the ease of insertion of threads, it’s consistent and sustainable results, minor side effects and a very low incidence of complications. Biodegradation of PDO occurs through a process of hydrolysis over a time period of between four to six months while the aesthetic duration of threading results has been found to last between 18-24 months.
Absorbable polydioxanone surgical suture. An absorbable polydioxanone surgical suture is an absorbable, flexible, sterile, monofilament thread prepared from polyester polymer poly (p-dioxanone) and is intended for use in soft tissue approximation, including pediatric cardiovascular tissue where growth is expected to occur, and ophthalmic surgery. It may be coated or uncoated, undyed or dyed, and with or without a standard needle attached.

What is the PDO Thread Lift?
The PDO Thread Lift is a treatment which lifts and tightens sagging skin tissue, using threads made of Polydioxanone (PDO). The threads introduces them into the deeper layers of the skin. Once introduced, the threads produce 3 effects in the skin:
- Instant Skin Lifting through mechanical effects
- Cellular Renewel, through Collagen stimulation, and neovascularisation to improve skin texture, fine lines and elasticity
- Skin Tightening, by contracting fat tissue
About 6 months after the procedure, the PDO threads will disappear through simple hydrolysis (they are absorbable). The lifted facial contours will remain for about 3-6 months more, due to the cellular rejuvenation effects. Your skin cells are stimulated to produce new collagen, and new blood vessels to improve skin microcirculation. At the same time, the PDO threads cause the fat tissue to contract, producing a skin tightening and facial slimming effect.
The process is usually carried out using local anesthetic, and takes between 45 and 60 minutes, depending on the treatment region. Side effects are minimal but may comprise puffiness and bruising that lasts 2-3 days, and individuals can proceed with ordinary activities right away.
Using local anesthetic, the threads are passed into the sagging facial element with a special guide needle. The threads are then able to catch on to the droopy soft-tissue and muscle of the desired area. Nearly all individuals feel minimal bruising or puffiness for 1-7 days.
The PDO Thread Lift is not painful and most individuals can return to ordinary activities with makeup the next day. The threads stay where they are inserted and, like all inner sutures, are typically well tolerated by the body.
